Salary Range: $75K – $90K (The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location)
Brierley Associates is seeking a highly motivated Geo-Structural Engineer to join our Boston office. You will work on challenging projects involving deep excavations, deep foundations, SOE systems, tunnels, and other complex geo-structural systems across North America. While based in Boston, you will gain exposure to complex projects nationwide, collaborating with teams across multiple offices. What is Geo-Structural Engineering?
Geo-structural engineering combines geotechnical and structural principles to design and analyze systems that support underground and deep excavation projects. It involves creating safe and efficient solutions for foundations, SOE systems, and tunnels—critical components of infrastructure in urban environments. This specialty requires creativity and technical rigor to solve complex challenges in soil-structure interaction and underground construction.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers with design and analysis of SOE systems, slurry walls, and foundations.
- Prepare engineering calculations, sketches, and technical reports under guidance.
- Support development of construction drawings and specifications.
- Participate in field investigations and construction observation.
- Learn and apply geotechnical and structural principles to real-world projects.
- Use software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudios, Mathcad) for modeling and design tasks.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to project meetings.
Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering (MS preferred).
- Structural engineering background with interest in geotechnical engineering, OR geotechnical background with interest in structural engineering.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Familiarity with analytical or design software is an asset.
- Experience with programming is a plus
- Willingness to travel for short-term field assignments.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability and commitment to obtain PE license within 2–4 years (PE preferred).
