Mine Subsidence, Assessment and
Mitigation in Wyoming

With abundant coal
deposits and the transcontinental railroad in southern Wyoming, a
number of communities were founded to supply steam engines with coal.
In many instances development occurred directly above the underground
mine workings, which over time often collapse and pose an on-going
surface subsidence hazard. Depending on location and subsurface
conditions, collapse features range from sinkholes as shown in the
image, to building cracks.
George A. Fox Conference
New York, NY
Associates is a Bronze Sponsor of the upcoming UCA-SME
George A. Fox
Conference to be held in New York City on January 24, 2017. This
year's theme is New Tunneling Technologies with presentations on US
and Canadian Transit Programs and East Coast Water Supply. We will be
well represented by AJ McGinn, Gregg Sherry, Alan Howard
and Jeremiah Jezerski at the conference.
Continues to Expand BIM/VDC Services
continues to expand our BIM/VDC services. To date we have
participated in over 20 collaborative BIM projects for underground
and support of excavation work. We have a team who understands
that the success of BIM does not rely on the software alone, but the
ability to communicate, collaborate, cooperate, and coordinate.
Jake Koelliker is the latest to join our
BIM/VDC team and he understands the BIM process. Jake received
his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in Construction
Management and began working as a VDC/BIM Engineer shortly
thereafter. Jake has worked on coordinating healthcare, waste water,
parking garages, solar, and multi-purpose facilities specializing in
self-perform cast-in-place concrete. He also was an essential part of
developing work flows and establishing standards for self-perform
concrete through the production of Concrete Lift Drawings and the
inclusion of Collaboration for Revit, Autodesk Point Layout, SCRUM,
Kanban, and other LEAN practices.
Jake Joined Brierley
Associates in October and has been helping to coordinate several
large SOE designs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jake's
ultimate goal is to create a collaborative environment where all
project conflicts are resolved virtually in an efficient and
productive manner prior to construction.
Brierley's Moraga Office Welcomes
Kristin received her
bachelor's and master's degree in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley,
and was awarded the departmental citation for her undergraduate work.
Having focused on geotechnical and structural engineering, Ms. Kwok
is excited to apply her knowledge to the geo-structural work at
Brierley. In her free time, Kristin enjoys playing the piano.
Kristin may be
contacted in our Moraga, CA office at 925.247.9000 ext. 124 or by
