One of our most-recent support of excavation design projects is the Transbay Block 9 development. A multi-residential project consisting of a 43-story tower on Folsom Street attached to an 8-story podium building on Folsom and First Street, and a row of two-story townhouses on the south side of Clementina Street. The Transbay 9 Tower shown in the image to the right was designed by the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP. Brierley, as the sub-consultant design engineer for Malcolm Drilling, designed the 69-ft deep support of excavation for this new high rise basement structure.

Brierley's participation in WTC 2016 includes conference organization, technical presentations and attendance by Brierley tunneling staff.  Alan Howard, Managing Partner, is a member of the conference organizing committee responsible for technical field trips. The trips include a tour of the SEM caverns at Chinatown Station for the Central Subway, where Brierley is working for Tutor Perini. Of course a visit to California would not be complete without a combined Napa winery/wine cave tour.  Additionally, a post-conference tour is scheduled at the SR99/Alaska Way Viaduct Tunnel where Brierley is working for Seattle Tunnel Partners, a joint venture of Tutor Perini and Dragados, USA.  Alan also served as technical reviewer of manuscripts being published and will co-chair a Technical Session, "Tunneling Advances Through Innovation".  In addition, Brierley Partners Dr. Mohamed Gamal and Bill Zietlow are presenting and publishing a paper "Underground Space for Oil Mining".
